Mise-en-Scene

Hair and Make-up
Women

• The women has short, highlighted hair. The shortness is seen to be quite formal. Her highlights could be used to show that she cares about her appearance and likes to make an effort on how she looks. Her hair is also quite dry which shows that she must style it a lot therefore reinforcing the fact that she cares about her appearance.
• She is wearing make-up which shows that she likes to make an effort on her appearance. This could be used to show how she wants to attract her husband which could lead us on to believe that their love is no longer how it used to be.

Girl

• The girl has long hair that is in no real style showing her innocence as she does not put effort into making her hair look a certain way. A ponytail is also quite a child-like style so also shows her innocence.
• She has simple but heave make-up on. She is only wearing eye-liner and lipstick, however, her eye-liner is thick and her lipstick is red which is quite a bold colour. This shows that her make-up is the opposite from her hair and portrays her in a different way. Her make-up shows how she is trying to look older and sexual.
• Her skin looks healthy as it has a little glow which is also used to show her innocence and child-like personality. Healthy skin shows that she is young. 

Man

• The mans hair is short and looks formal which could be used to show that he has a good, well paid job. He has a receding hairline which is used to show age and could also be seen to show that receives a lot of stress from his job. 

Body Language/ Posture
Women

• She leaning back showing that she does not care and does not wish to a take part in the conversation. This could show that she has lost love for, who we presume is, her husband as she does not wish to have a conversation with him.

Girl

• She has her elbows on the table, where as her parents do not, showing that she may have little respect for her parents and she does not follow their rules. It also shows that she may be quite rude and not have many manners as most people do not put their elbows on the table whilst you are having dinner.

Man

• The man is leaning over showing that he is engaging in the conversation and cares about the people who are at the table with him. This could show that he does want the love to last between the couple as he looks as though he is trying to make conversation with the two.
• He has is fists clenched which indicates that he may be angry. This may be used to show the fact that he is angry that he is the only one out of the pair that is trying in their relationship. This may be used to show his frustration at the fact that he is being shown little respect by both his daughter and partner.

Clothing
Women

• She is wearing quite formal clothing which may show that this dinner is important and she has dressed up for it, which could also lead to us believing that this does not happen often and they are not used to all of them being around the same table, at the same time for dinner.
• She is wearing a silk shirt which shows that this family is wealthy and has a lot of money to spend on clothes. The silk shirt could also be used to attract the man which shows that their love may not be how it used to be.

Girl

• She has quite casual clothing on which shows that she has not made as much effort as her parents have. This shows that she does not feel as though she has to dress up for a family mean. This could be used to show how she already as her parents love and does not feel as though she has to impress them.
• She has quite bright clothing on which may be used to show that she is the only brightness in her parents lives and she is the only good thing they have. This is because the rest of the surroundings are quite dark and she is the only thing that stands out.
• Her clothing is also quite unique which could be used to show that she has quite a unique personality.

Man

• The clothing that he is wearing is quite old and formal and is a lot older than the age that we think that he is. This could show how he does not feel as though he has to dress up for the women, showing the fracture between their relationship.

Facial Expressions
Women

• The women looks quite emotionless which shows that she does not want to be there and she does not feel anything towards the man. The only slight emotion that she does appear to be showing is un-impressed which shows that she is not happy with what the man has just said.
• She is staring directly at the man which could be used to show that she wants to have his attention, either for him to notice her or for him to see the face that she is giving him.

Girl

• The girl looks quite angry which could be used to show that she is not happy with what her father has just said. She could also be angry at the situation and is annoyed with her parents relationship.
• The mother and daughter and showing quite similar looks which could be used to show the bond between the two. This could be used to show how they both dislike and are against the father.

Man

• The man looks as though he is laughing showing that he found what he said funny and may not understand why the mother and daughter do not share the same views as him. This could be used to show the differences between the family and how they differ between them all.

Framing
All of the family is spaced out which shows that the family is not a close family and may be used to show the broken relationships between all of them. The child is in the middle of the two parents which is used to show how they are all they care about and how she is important to them. She also may be in the middle to show how she is the important character and how she is the only one that matters in the scene.
All of the props are centered around the child which reinforces the fact that she is the important one to both her parents and the scene.

Lighting
The candles, that are the only light, are around the girl showing that she may be the only light in their world. This could also be used to show that she is the only person that is keeping her parents together. The rest of the lights are off showing that that relationship has been lost between the parents. Also, candles are only temporary and will run out showing that the child's love might run out towards the parents or eventually the relationship between the parents will eventually be over.
The adults are quite dark which may be used to show their hatred towards each other. IT could also be used to show that they are not important in the scene and we should not be focusing on them.
There is a window behind the father that letting a little bit of light through. This may be used to show how the father believes that there is still something between the two adults. It is used to show how he has hope and believes there is still something to fight for.
However, the mother does not have a window or and source of light behind her showing that she has lost hope for their relationship and doesn't believe there is anything worth fighting for.
The lighting is quite dark meaning that you are unable to see the items in the room. This could show how wealth doesn't matter to this couple and just because they are rich and have a lot of possessions, it doesn't mean that they are happy.
The curtains are closed to cover the windows. This may be used to show how they do not want the outside world to know about their problems and do not want people to see into their private life.

Props
The women is drinking wine which shows how she is trying to escape from the situation and her life in general. The bottle of wine is half empty so shows how much she has drunk, this could be used to show that she may be an alcoholic.
The decorations on the table such as the vase and the candles show the wealth of the family This is because these items are usually shown to represent wealth and upper class.
There is flowers on the table that are placed in front of the daughter. As this is the only life, this could be used to show that the daughter is their life and the most important thing to them.

Colour
The women's has a blue top which is the same colour as the table mats. This could be used to show that she was the person who laid the table and prepared the dinner which could lead us on to believe that she is a house wife. The colour blue is also classed as a sad colour which may be used to show that she is unhappy in the situation that she is on.
The colour of the flowers, that are in front of the daughter, are red. This is the only vibrant colour in the room which shows how the daughter is the important character. Red also is seen to be a sexual colour which shows how the daughter is trying to be sexual and attractive, which links to her make-up.
